Bhilai (Chhattisgarh), [India], May 22, 2024: In Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, a visionary dream took shape in 2005 under the guidance of Shri G S Sachdev, the chairman of the Happy School Educational Society. Sai College Bhilai, established to provide quality education, opened its doors to students from all walks of life. The college was built on a foundation of foresight and dedication, aspiring to cater to the region’s educational needs.
A year after its inception, in 2006, Sai College pioneered a transformative initiative. Recognising the emerging significance of biotechnology, a field then confined to the metropolitan hubs of India, Shri G S Sachdev envisioned a future where the students of Chhattisgarh could access cutting-edge education in this promising discipline. Thus, the Biotechnology Department at Sai College was born, marking a significant milestone in the region’s educational history.
The college established advanced facilities, ensuring that students received theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for a career in biotechnology. This initiative was hope for students who had completed their Class 12th with biology but faced limited opportunities beyond the NEET examinations and the highly competitive path to medical education.
In the early 2000s, biotechnology education was a rarity in Chhattisgarh. Upon not securing a seat in medical colleges, most students had little choice but to pursue conventional BSc degrees in biology, which offered limited career prospects. Sai College’s introduction of biotechnology at both undergraduate (2006) and postgraduate levels (2008) provided a much-needed alternative. It opened a new horizon for students, allowing them to delve into a field with vast potential and diverse career opportunities.
The institution’s commitment to making education accessible is reflected in its affordable fee structure and flexible payment plans. Understanding many families’ financial constraints, Sai College has ensured that higher education remains within reach. Moreover, the college’s unique library allows students unlimited access to books throughout their study period, lifting the financial burden of purchasing textbooks and fostering an unbridled academic exploration.
Biotechnology offers diverse possibilities for students who are passionate about biology and look beyond traditional medical careers. It promises a fulfilling career and the chance to be at the forefront of scientific innovation and discovery.
